Turkic Wikimedia Conference

2023 Istanbul, TÜRKİYE

Turkic Wikimedia Conference is an annual gathering of Wikimedians and supporters of Wikimedia projects in Turkic languages. The conference aims to bring together all the people who work on Wikimedia projects and support the development of projects and the Wikimedia Movement on a local and global level. Today, more than 200 million people speak Turkic languages, and the geography of the speakers unites Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran, Central Asia, China, and Russia. On this basis, the development and support of communities of Turkic-speaking Wikimedians are critical.

The first Turkic Wikimedia Conference took place in 2012 in Kazakhstan. In 2022, Wikimedia Turkic UG conducted the first training on Wikidata for the Turkic communities, and there it was decided to resume the annual conference for the Turkic community of Wikimedia.

The second Turkic Wikimedia Conference was held in Istanbul, Türkiye, between 20-22 October 2023, hosted by the Wikimedians of Turkic Languages User Group and the Wikimedia Community User Group Turkey.

Wikidata Trainings For Turkic Wikimedians

2022 Istanbul, TÜRKİYE

Wikidata Trainings For Turkic Wikimedians is training and conference days for representatives of Turkic Wikimedia projects, to improve and enrich the skills of working in Wikimedia projects, primarily in Wikidata.

This is a conference and a series of training about Wikidata, Wikipedia and Wikipedia in Education, which is organized by Wikimedia UG Türkiye & Turkic Community in cooperation with Wikimedia UG Georgia. The event will also be supported by Istanbul’s Üsküdar University, on the campus of which the event will be organized.

Wikimania 2022 Baku Meetup

The Wikimedians of Turkic Languages User Group will be a part of this year’s Wikimania 2022. There will be a series of meet-ups, edit-a-thons, watch parties and presentations. This will also serve as a venue for the members to develop their planned programs, outreach activities and other innovations on Wikimedia projects.

Turkic Marathon

Turkic Marathon is an annual Wikipedia editing contest, which is carried out on the initiative and organization of Wikimedia Turkic UG with the support and with active cooperation with local Turkic Wikimedia affiliations. The contest will be held in several Turkic editions of Wikipedia. During the contest, contestants must create articles in their language edition of Wikipedia and add them to a special page (Fountain). The winners will be determined by the jury for each Wikipedia.
